John P. McGrail's Football Helmet from Holy Cross College (1920-1924)

Here's a photo of John P. McGrail's football helmet from Holy Cross College....note the long-ago sweat stains. He wore this between 1920-1924. Note that the helmet is leather, with cotton padding inside. There was a chin strap also. This helmet would probably be considered inadequate for even a "tag" football team today!
