One day recently, it occurred to me...I wonder what ever happened to the old pump house, down past the aquaduct? I hadn't seen it in years, esp. since a different pump and well was put in in the early 1970's.

Well, I looked, and I found it. Just where I remembered it.

Here are some pictures I took just recently (April 2009) of. There was an easement to cross the aquaduct, and a break in the fence led to a trail to the old well that supplied the farmhouse itself with water for many, many years. Sometime in the 1950's, while our grandfather, John P. McGrail was raising Jersey cattle on the farm, the old pump caught fire and burned the inside of the building. I was terribly frightened of the pumphouse. Sitting on top of the well was the pump. As you can see from these photos, the pump house is still there and the pump itself looks in good condition. The wiring is wrecked, however. You can see an old light switch and the fusebox, along with a spare belt for the pump and the stepladder from the farm.

Gramp's old gooseneck lamp from the cellar is there, he brought it out to have a better look at the pump and never returned it to the house. It is rusted with more than 30 years of rain and snow.

This is the only building I saw standing of the old farm. It's possible that the new owner isn't aware of it.

The floor of the pump house is broken through, exposing the pump. Note the burnt wood and the step ladder.

Here's a shot of the fuse box, along with the burnt wall. Scared the hell out of me when I was little.

Later, drilled well, installed around 1970, when the old one finally broke down one winter. It's still there, there are a total of four (4) wells on the property.
